Emergent Group has signed the Veteran Employment Commitment to publicly declare our organisation’s commitment to employing Australia’s veterans and creating an environment where they can perform at their best.
The federal government’s renewed Veteran Employment Commitment scheme has assessed Emergent Group’s application and has recognised the business and its three companies as a Veteran Employer of Choice, the gold standard for employer support of veterans.
The scheme is part of the Prime Minister’s National Veterans’ Employment Program, which demonstrates the importance the Government places on raising awareness of the skills, values and experience veterans bring to the civilian workplace.
The federal scheme recognises organisations for their current workplace policies and practices that support employment for veterans and their partners. Emergent Group Managing Director, Steven Smith, has long recognised the value of having veterans as part of the team.
“Effective teamwork and collaboration is a highly valued quality at Emergent Group because of the complex problem solving we do, and we see this as something our veteran employees bring to the group,” said Steven.
Signing the Veteran Employment Commitment demonstrates that Emergent Group companies pledge to create an environment where veterans can perform at their best. Our candidate selection and onboarding processes are veteran friendly, and all employees receive support and training. We offer flexible work options, free access to counselling services and vouchers to pay for wellbeing activities.
Emergent Group company Acubis, which specialises in remote communications technologies, has led the way in recruiting veterans. Acubis General Manager, Jeff Berg,
“Our business has employed a number of veterans over the years, and we’ve been impressed by the technical skills and the work ethic they’ve brought to our teams,” said Jeff.
The scheme provides access to employer support resources such as webinars to help businesses implement or improve policies and practices to support veterans. There are also resources for veterans who are making the transition to civilian work life. An online tool to identify skills and translate them into language more commonly used in civilian context, is useful for job candidates and employers.
As a Veteran Employer of Choice, the Emergent Group business profile is available on the Department of Veterans’ Affairs website. This allows potential veteran recruits to identify our organisation as veteran friendly and a link to our website allows them to express an interest in working with us.
