Theatre Service Audits

Let Advitech give you confidence in the integrity of your staging systems

Receive truly independent advice regarding the condition of structures, machinery & hoisting equipment and related systems by a quality-assured engineering practice, backed by experienced theatre specialists.

Critical issues for theatres that pose a risk to building safety and integrity are often overlooked, whilst relatively inconsequential issues can receive inordinate priority and attention because of their simplicity (e.g. improper mousing on a shackle).

Similarly, control system reliability and functional safety is paramount when personnel are working underneath hoisted loads, but this risk, once again, may not receive the attention it duly deserves.

Advitech and our specialist partners understand that the building structure, understage and overstage machinery, the control systems etc. are all relying on each other for holistic operational safety, and that these systems are interdependent. We have the engineering disciplines and combined experience to address all safety-related aspects of your venue. We have chartered engineers (both CPEng and RPEQ) in structural, civil, mechanical, and functional safety disciplines.

Stage lighting on elevated bar
Gladstone Convention and Exhibition Centre

Advitech engineers teamed up with John Buckley to undertake a structural inspection of the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre theatre, to document structural defects within critical accessways.

The scope of work also included facilitating a risk assessment workshop to assess the risks posed by the defects, as well as review any additional non-conformances and hazards that were identified during the structural inspection. Where necessary, remedial actions were identified to address specific risks based on compliance to the relevant Australian Standards.

Newcastle Civic Theatre

Advitech’s structural and civil engineers worked with one of our specialist partners on this 1929 Newcastle icon to determine the true capacity of the venue’s fly system/grid and design all necessary rectification members to ensure the building’s compliance against AS 1170 and all other relevant codes.

The work included analysis of existing structural elements and masonry, dilapidation surveys, computer modelling of the roof trusses, determination of capacity of counterweight storage deck, and reviews against earthquake loading.
