Hazardous Area Identification

Minimise risks at your site and keep your people safe

Our experienced process engineers and accredited dangerous goods consultants can manage the entire hazard identification and Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) process from start to finish, improving the safety of your operation and ensuring compliance with hazardous area acts, regulations and standards including the AS/NZS 4761 series. Our experience extends across manufacturing, mining and processing facilities that generate, handle and store flammable gases, vapours, liquids and combustible dusts.

Hazardous Area Assessment

Engineer inspecting a work area for hazards - hazard identification concept
Experience:
  • Hazardous area classification of a floating offshore oil drilling rig for Stena Drilling.
  • Hazardous area classification for a major lead, zinc and silver mine in Broken Hill, NSW.
  • Hazardous area inspection and classification for a coal reclaim tunnel.
  • Classification of hazardous areas for a proposed major coal mine.
  • Risk assessment associated with the safety of gas meters for the ACT Government.
  • Classification of hazardous areas for a university research and development facility.
  • Review of hazardous areas across multiple sites for a utilities provider.
  • Classification of hazardous areas and preparation of drawings for a waste recovery facility.
  • Goaf drainage flare plant hazardous area classification for an underground mine.
  • Hazardous area inspection and classification for a floating offshore oil and gas exploration facility.
  • Hazardous area classification for a manufacturer of fibreglass pools and spas.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Different applications of CFD modelling

In special circumstances, we can take hazardous area assessment to the next level through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). CFD modelling and simulation allows a more detailed review of the probable extent of hazardous zones. This can add substantial value over HAC alone, including the potential to enable significant long-term cost benefits where process specific zoning applies. Our process engineers have the skills to identify when standard HAC one-dimensional calculations may be insufficient. The needs-analysis process includes a detailed cost-benefit analysis to ensure an investment in CFD modelling would be worthwhile. Our process engineers provide all the detailed information required to prepare appropriate CFD models.
